Applique Machine
Need help with applique….?

I am wanting to put appliques on some shirts for my little ones. I have the shape cut out but am lost at how to apply it. I have lots of stitches to choose from on my Sewing Machine. It is so hard to turn the corners and it looks messy. Any advice would be appreciated.

To correctly apply applique, you must turn under a seam allowance and sew with either a blanket stitch or zig zag stitch. Eleanor Burns has a neat way to ‘cheat’ your appliques using fusible interfacing. When I started doing applique, I did a simple, short straight (or zig zag) stitch 1/8 – 1/4 inch inside the edge, and let the edges fray. Everyone thought it looked great and I didnt have to worry so much about doing ‘perfect’ applique until I got the hang of going around shapes correctly.
