In The Ring (ITH) Projects
On-the-hoop projects are very similar in many respects to those applied by Designs "embroidery> designs made in the ring. Both have a placement of the seam line, a tack line, usually followed by detailed outline and a dot satin. Depending on the design, there may be a single set of placement and rhumb lines or there may be some pairs of them, but they are similar. From my experience working in a shop, I saw many people avoid appliqué and / or projects in the ring, simply because they think it might be too difficult for them. So let's demystify some of these steps.
First, tutorials included in the projects in the ring, giving step by step instructions on most if not all scanners. If you you take one step at a time would be surprised how easy and fun it can be. The additional benefit of a project in the ring "is that once you're outside the ring, usually everything is done. It is a quick way to get a sense of accomplishment pulling a project completed outside the ring – great for those of you who do not have much time to sew.
On-the-hoop projects start with a "placement" of the stitch. It does not matter the color of thread used to stitch placement. Point placement not appear on the finished project, they will be covered by other stitches. It's just a point to give a visual of where to place the material (the instructions will tell you what kind of material down on another, ie, fabric, batting, etc.). The machine will automatically stop allowing time to put your material until stops as well as for any change of color. That's why the scanner did this line of the placement of a different color, so the machine will know when to stop.
After placing the material in line placement, the second step is usually a direction "down" of the stitch. Down with the closing of the Stitch hold down the material in place so no changes. After the turn down is finished, you will want to take the hoop from the machine but not material out of the seat ring and near the seam. (Again, the color of thread, no matter how the color change is there for the machine to know when stop so you can trim.) Once you have cut the material, the ring will take place on the machine to complete the design. Very often, you will be advised some time to wind a bobbin with matching thread at the top and the tap of a Satin Stitch can be seen on both sides.
Depending the project in the hoop, I like to use a stabilizer to wash. When the machine Embroidery Design is complete I can throw in the wash or use a template to melt cutter Stabilizer satin stitch to the edge of a clean and tidy finish. Tear Away stabilizer has a tendency to leave little bits pokies sticking out of the stitch stabilizer when away. (Tip: If this has happened, use a cover of "up" the pen of the same color you used on the stitch and color pokies.)
I have included a free sample Luggage Spotter project for you to try your hand at a project in the ring. It only takes 2, 6 "pieces cloth, 1, 6 "piece of batting, embroidery thread, and a ¼" wide head band elastic (or shoe chain) to complete the project. Complete instructions step by step with photos included. If you have questions along the way, just write me and I'll try to get past the hump.
Each project will have on the ring- some similarities. Some are more involved than others but all will have a line placement, tack down stitches, and then your final embroidered detailing.
