Need a new digital camera need advice?

I am interested in birdwatching and digi possible scope, but not sure of what works best for this camera. I want something that the powers very fast because I like to photograph birds and wildlife, and 1) can not always be about 2) that are very fast. I want something that has interchangeable lenses for optical zoom not very interested in the digital zoom because the picture pixilated. I have a camera now but I'm getting better and want a better camera for better results in my photo. I've done some research, but its difficult to read all the mumbo jumbo. Bottom Line I will use it mainly for photographing birds and wildlife from a distant few. Any suggestions, something afforable too.

I say to go to the Canon S3 IS. Its got a 12x zoom, and a fee (which is always a good thing!), And the image stabilization is a necessity for the long zoom. alternatively, theres the new S5 IS will be available shortly. It looks good. If you want interchangeable lenses, then an SLR is best for you (in addition to producing the best results), however the price-wise, any SLR will be expensive! plus they need to learn, as the auto modes arent usually very good. I would suggest a Canon 400D. or equivalent Nikon. plus then you have to buy a good zoom lens, which will cost a lot! ultimately, value, ease of use rational and the long zoom, i was chosen the Canon S3 / 5 IS (i dont think theres a big difference too, and s3 be in the price) or the Sony H9, which has a zoom, but does unfortuanelty have SD cards or an Olympus Ultra Zoom (18x zoom). I think the canon will give the best images, however. just my opinion:) check out www.dpreview.com too. ps. the man above me, "No matter megapixel! as long as you have more than 6 MP, you'll be fine. unless you want to print larger than it is. but for most people, 6 MP is adequate. and the file size will increase with more megapixels.
