Black – The fashion color
The “Little Black Dress” in western party-wears or casual wears came into being since 1920-s by the renowned fashion designer Coco Chanel. Women used it as a day-time wear with simple accessories and day make-up. The same dress could be a marvelous evening-wear with sparkling jewellery and a shade louder make-up. Black is a color that could be contrasted with a wide range of colors. The mute ones for casual wears or outfits for day-wear and the brighter or louder shades for the evenings and special occasions. They are usually gowns, body-hugging and at times strapless. Sometimes the straps are of a different color or with a metallic luster. Accompanied by a low waist belt tucked with sparkling girdle ornaments add to the gaudiness.
Eastern apparels and ethnic wears comprise of mind-boggling black sarees, salwar suits and kurtis. Also in line are the Indo-western tunics and skirts.
Black Party-wear Sarees can be crafted out of printed georgette. They can also be fashioned out of fine net and crepe. The embroidered sarees could be perfect for opulent parties or weddings. The best designer black party-wear or wedding-wear black sarees can range from Rs. 1200.00 onwards, that is, approximately US$23.00. The pure georgettes start from about Rs.3000.00. digitally printed sarees are costlier than conventional ones. The heavy embroidered sarees can be as high as Rs.20,000.00.
Black Casual Sarees are usually in faux georgette. The price starts from about Rs.800.
Wedding salwar suits are usually made from tussar silk, crush fabric, terry voile and other rich fabrics Rs.3000.00. Leather patch-work is much desired in wedding attires. Traditional salwar kameez have Silk Thread work, stone, mirror, beads, and sequins work. Designer suits can also have simple kurtis with gorgeous organza dupattas and/or embroidered trousers (bottom). Silk or chiffon kurtis look great at weddings and special social gatherings.
Kurtis are worn with long floor-length skirts and trousers. Ladies prefer black kurtis with light denim or cotton trousers for parties, jam sessions or disco nights. Black printed skirts are also elegant casual wears, complemented by white, beige or other light colors. Black with red, blue and purple shades, are stunning concoctions at evening parties.
Some superstitions do cross the way. Black is usually not preferred in festivals. Brides are never seen in black. It is believed to be ominous. Yet for all other purpose black is never thwarted.
