I think it's best to check a long time ago — the there were no such things as computer games, movies, television shows or comic books. Thus, young people and the desire of others to experience new worlds of imagination had to rely in the written word. One of the people who have delivered these worlds was Jules Verne, French novelist, 19th century is often regarded as the father of science fiction. There were, of course, the authors have used elements of science fiction in his works before, but Verne is the first complete a work that is associated with a particular genre. On the other hand, Verne's novels, though no doubt belongs to the genus, are in their nature adventure stories, and therefore responsible for the future of the misconception Science fiction is nothing more than juvenile escapism worthless. Escapist or not, the work of Verne provides entertainment to its readers, and even today we are still fascinated with technological prophecies, although many of them became obsolete with the passage of time. The best known novel by Jules Verne and one of the classics of literature adventure is 20,000 leagues under the sea, the mother of all novels underwater exploration. His popularity among readers was tremendous, but the 20-century filmmakers show rather reluctant to adapt to the big screen, especially due to the enormous technical problems associated with production. Some of these problems were resolved in 1954 when Disney presented his version, directed by Richard Fleischer, one of the first films very taken with the Cinemascope technology use. The story begins in 1868 when many boat crashed and sank huge and unknown object. Surviving sailors bring sea monster stories, creating hysteria in the ports of the world. Professor Arronax (played by Paul Lukas), French scholar marine visit San Francisco, is asked by the U.S. government to join the expedition to investigate the phenomenon. U.S. Arronax Navy ship together, along with his trusty servant and apprentice Conceille (played by Peter Lorre) and Ned Land (played by Kirk Douglas), experts harpoonist conceited. The issue is with many months of fruitless searching, until he finally meets the sea monster in the violent collision. Arronax, conseillé and Earth are thrown overboard, and after a while they encounter the object of their search. To their surprise, they realize that the sea monster "is actually the man submarine. His crew, led by the mysterious Captain Nemo (played by James Mason) and take prisoners. In the coming months they would experience many adventures and witness many wonders of the underwater world. At the same time, while trying to reason with Nemo Arronax and convince them that must share their findings with the rest of the world land plots to escape. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is the embodiment of Disney at its best – family entertainment that uses new wonders superbly the brand of film technology. The special effects, along with underwater photography, are still impressive, after almost four decades, and the "Oscar" reward for them is well deserved, especially after taking into account the use of new technology brand cinemascope. Production design of "Nautilus" was also very good, original and faithful to Verne's vision. The result is a film that should be seen as a very good adaptation of the classic science fiction in many ways comparable to the adaptation of HG Wells THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, produced a year earlier. Of course, technical innovation and the visual splendor is not sufficient for a successful film. Screenplay by Earl Felton took some liberties with the original text, which is quite understandable. Some of the situations are very recognizable of the novel, moreover, Felton seasoned characters and, somehow, better material Verne. The biggest difference is the moral ambiguity, Nemo, played by James Mason, is portrayed as a genius whose disgust with civilization and conventional morality reached almost pathological levels, while at the same time deeply staff and the causes of anger is quite understandable as providing strong emotional impact, making a very lively character, believable and almost sympathetic. Earth, with enthusiasm played by Kirk Douglas in his prime, is portrayed as a "normal" and even very nice man, but on the contrary, their actions show him as not very bright. Paul Lukas as the narrator is the shadow of the two, like Peter Lorre conseillé, and not without success and almost pathetic attempt at comic relief. Since the film was directed toward the family audience, some of the darker and more adult story additions were offset by more intent unnecessary plot to lighten the mood of the film. First we see Kirk Douglas doing the song number in the beginning, and then we have a much more friendly label successful comic relief. These elements provide a certain charm to the film, but at the same time reduce the film
